Existence of Smooth Attractors for the Navier—stokes-omega Model of Turbulence: Expanded Version
This is an expanded version of a report with the same title. It includes as appendices motivation, connections to related work and background material. This expanded version’s purpose is to provide a fuller picture of the work presented in the shorter version submitted for publication. We consider the Navier-Stokes-omega model, given by ut − u× ω − ν△u+∇P = f, ω = ∇× u,∇ · u = 0 subject to peri...
متن کاملModel error in the LANS-alpha and NS-alpha deconvolution models of turbulence
This paper reports on a computational study of the model error in the LANS-alpha and NS-alpha deconvolution models of homogeneous isotropic turbulence. Computations are also performed for a new turbulence model obtained as a rescaled limit of the deconvolution model. The technique used is to plug a solution obtained from direct numerical simulation of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations ...
متن کاملStochastic model error in the LANS-alpha and NS-alpha deconvolution models of turbulence
This paper reports on a computational study of the model error in the LANS-alpha and NS-alpha deconvolution models of homogeneous isotropic turbulence. The focus is on how well the model error may be characterized by a stochastic force. Computations are also performed for a new turbulence model obtained as a rescaled limit of the deconvolution model. The technique used is to plug a solution obt...
متن کاملChebychev optimized approximate deconvolution models of turbulence
If the Navier-Stokes equations are averaged with a local, spacial convolution type filter, φ = gδ∗φ, the resulting system is not closed due to the filtered nonlinear term uu. An approximate deconvolution operator D is a bounded linear operator which satisfies u = D(u) + O(δ), where δ is the filter width and α ≥ 2. Using a deconvolution operator as an approximate filter inverse, yields the closu...
متن کاملAn adaptive local deconvolution model for compressible turbulence
The objective of this project was the analysis and the control of local truncation errors in large eddy simulations. We show that physical reasoning can be incorporated into the design of discretization schemes. Using systematic procedures, a non-linear discretization method is developed where numerical and turbulence-theoretical modeling are fully merged. The truncation error itself functions ...
